Gig: Christian Science Monitor

I also had a gig with the Christian Science Monitor right before the Tracy Silverman gig.  It's been published and you can read the article here.  It's a great piece on religion and politics.  They are also other articles of others from different faiths.  Being in Tennessee, I photographed a surprisingly photogenic, Southern Baptist ... Brian Weldy.  

Brian was really great to meet me at his church of 15 years in Franklin, TN to take a few quick picks.

Currently, I am editing a new video for Tracy.  A "behind the scenes" look of his rehearsals, Q&A and world premiere of PCR.  As you can see from the dates of performances, Tracy performed masterfully at Nashville, Carmel and Carnegie Hall.  Congrats and many thanks to Tracy and his manager, Mitchell Korn.  It was amazing to work with them and meeting a legend in the music world, Terry Riley.  Truly an honor.

New Gig: The Palmian Chord Ryddle

Here's a great gig that landed in my lap.  I had the opportunity to photograph and film promo of the concerto of The Palmian Chord Ryddle by influencial, innovative composer Terry Riley.  Performed by accomplished electric violinist Tracy Silverman.  It was my honor to work with these guys.  Tracy and his manager Mitchell Korn drove me up to Indianapolis to meet Terry and shoot the promo photos and video there at the performing art center.

Gig: Local Table

Duck Breast on Sweet Potato Ash

Nashville magazine Local Table gave me a really cool assignment to photograph Table 3, a semi-new restaurant in the Green Hills area.  All the food, by Chef Will Uhlhorn, are from local farmers in the Middle Tennessee and Central Kentucky Region.  Pick up a copy of Local Table in Nashville.

New Video!

I shot this with my friend Jason in Guangzhou, China.  It was this massive fishing dock behind our hotel.  it was bustling all night and day.  It's a bunch of raw clips edited together; pretty simple edit.

FIRE!!!

After seeing a taping of "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" at TPAC.  I saw a large orange glow from a distance with a huge plume of white smoke. Naturally, I drove to the fire to see what happened. Luckily, I had my camera gear in my car.

Tell Tale Nights

I recently photographed nashville indie rock band Tale Tell Nights. We had a lot of fun shooting together at a small park in nashville. The location was perfect for the band. Tell Tale were awesome for bringing props, dressing well and knowing how to pose. They blended perfectly with Sunnyside, a 1852 restored house at the park.

I'm Back from China

I just got back from my China trip. Blogger was blocked in the mainland. Now it's catching up time in my first few weeks back in the States.

I found a photograph of myself in summer 2001 (actually -- it's a misprint, its 2002). This was after my freshman year of college. After seeing it again on my Myspace page, I realized I still have my old practice jersey from high school and I am living in the same house. So I recreated the shot. A lot has changed in my life since the photograph was taken, despite the lack of physical change ( I like to thank my parents' good genes). One, the old photo was film and then scanned in. I don't know why at such low resolution, but back then 100MB zip disk was HUGE. Now I back up my computer with a 650 HD and looking for more external hard drives in the terabytes. Now I have a nice DSLR and my color correction is a tad better - the older photo, my jersey is greenish blue.

Maybe I'll photograph myself seven years from now in 2016.

I went outside after a rain and photographed flowers. Then I saw this leaky gutter and I wanted to see how fast is my shutter. purty fast

Slightly Updated

I have iLife '09 on my macbook now. Therefore, I update my website with some changes.

• larger thumbnail photos
• better slideshow UI without distracting reflections
• a counter on homepage
• update links

I do like this current site, but it's a little bland and template-ish. I plan to completely change the website this summer. Re-organizing the photograph; lower the amount of clicking; ridding thumbnails are some the changes I plan to make in the future.

Clouds Up

I love clouds and photographing them. I like the colors, textures and shape.; if/ when I get HD video capabilities, I will capture their movement.

Is that too lame? Despite my love, I think it's a lame subject matter to photograph.

While photographing the Madison Bowling sign in the previous post, I decided to go HDR on the pretty cloud up above. I photographed it freehand first, then photographed it as a HDR image using a tri-pod.

So I wonder... was this worth to HDR this? One of the two images above is HDR and the other is not, which one is HDR? and which one is better? (im asking you, the readers)

As I have been on my HDR spree, I don't want to take the time to take HDR images when I don't have to... it takes a lot of time, both in shooting and editing, to do one of these.

PS - what do you see in the cloud? a bird, face, whale or just floating water vapors clumped together in the atmosphere

Madison

Two more HDR images in Madison, a sub-city of Nashville. I grew up here. These photos are "a work in progress." I am not completely satisfied and will tinker with them. There are more images/ places of Madison I haven't edited or even shot.

I photographed this library shortly after registering to be a member. There, I checked out a CD by Feist, Devotchka and a book on interior photography. I wish the had the lights on in that front section, it would of completed that photo for me.

Edgehill

My sis told me about this place called Edgehill Village near Vandy. It's a cool little shopping district. The coolest thing about the place is that they have a Fat Straw. My first one ever after hearing so much about how good they were. I really enjoyed it. Hit the hyperlink if you don't know what I am talking about.

The horse head was found in an empty architect office. Or maybe it was some sort of mafia sign.
